Wet, wild weekend leaves capital region cleaning up

Strong winds brought down powerlines and trees across the ACT and NSW south coast. (7pm TV News NSW)More than 2,000 homes on the New South Wales south coast are still without power after wild weather lashed the region. The SES received 2,500 calls for assistance mostly in the Illawarra and south coast areas where winds reached 100 kilometres an hour, blowing over trees and bringing down powerlines. About 20,000 south coast homes lost electricity at around 7:00am AEDT yesterday.Country Energy regional manager Phillip Green says the winds severed one of the main lines."We did lose the main transmission lines coming from the Illawarra region down to the Batemans Bay and Moruya areas.
